制作について

PURE MIDIは、Tobokegaoがでっち上げたジャンルで、音を加工するエフェクトをほとんど使わずに、音源機器そのものの素直な音を鳴らした音楽のことです。「中古のハード機材に入っていた誰かの曲を聴いているような感じ」とも言っています。MLTEKさんの音楽に大きな影響を受け、そうした曲を集めたコンピレーションを作れないかと考えて、このアルバムができました。

集まった曲は、「ペナペナ」した音を意識したものと、制約の中でどこまで技を尽くせるかに挑んだものに分かれました。そこで前半を前者、後半を後者の曲順にしています。使った機材はあえて公開せず、音の聴き心地に集中して聴いてもらえるようにしました。

ふりかえり

告知のあと、ニッチなので反応は少ないかと思っていたところ、思いのほか盛り上がりました。発売前日の夜にはYouTubeで全曲を先に流し、聴いている人と感想を投稿し合いました。

About the making

PURE MIDI is a genre Tobokegao made up: music played on sound modules with little or no effects. In Tobokegao’s words, it feels like “listening to someone’s song left inside second-hand hardware”. Deeply influenced by MLTEK’s music, Tobokegao wondered whether a compilation of such songs could be made, and this album is the result.

The entries split into those that lean into a thin, “pena-pena” sound and those that push technique as far as it goes within the limits, so the first half holds the former and the second half the latter. The gear used was kept secret on purpose, so that listeners focus on how the music sounds.

Looking back

After the announcement, Tobokegao expected little response to something this niche, and was glad it caught on more than expected. The night before release, the whole album premiered on YouTube while listeners posted their reactions together.
